Seller Guidelines

Hobby Nest is a community marketplace where crafters and hobbyists can buy and sell leftover or unused supplies. To keep our community safe, fair, and enjoyable, all sellers must follow these guidelines.

What You Can Sell

  • Unused or leftover craft and hobby supplies
  • Fabric, yarn, beads, paper, paints, tools, kits, puzzles, etc.
  • Gently used supplies (as long as they are clean and in good condition).
  • Complete or partial lots (e.g., leftover fabric scraps, bundles of yarn, sets of beads).
  • Craft kits that are unused and contain all necessary pieces.

What You Cannot Sell

  • Finished handmade items (Hobby Nest is for supplies, not handmade products).
  • Damaged, unsafe, or unusable items (e.g., dried paint, broken tools).
  • Hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, flammables).
  • Items prohibited by law or shipping restrictions.

Creating Listings

  • Photos: Upload clear, accurate photos of the actual item(s) you are selling. Avoid stock photos unless they are in addition to your own photos.
  • Include a verification note: Place a small piece of paper with your username and the current date next to your item in photos. This simple step helps build trust and gives potential buyers confidence in your listing.
  • Descriptions: Be honest and detailed — include size, quantity, brand, and condition. If an item is partial or opened, state that clearly.
  • Pricing or Trade: You may list an item with a set price, list it as “trade only,” or note that you are open to trades.

Setting a fair and reasonable price increases your chances of selling. If your item is priced correctly for its condition, quantity, and demand, it is more likely to sell quickly. Take a look at similar items in Hobby Nest to help guide your pricing.

Items Per Listing

  • One Item Per Listing (Recommended): For clarity and easier searching, we recommend listing one item per listing.
  • Listing Multiple like items: (e.g., 5 puzzles of the same quantity), group them together in a single lot listing rather than posting individually. Clearly note the total quantity included and provide photos that represent the condition of the entire lot. You can update your description to indicate which items are no longer available.

Using Credits

In addition to your monthly subscription listings, Hobby Nest offers credits that can enhance your selling experience. Credits are optional and can be purchased at any time.

Bump a Listing

  • Every listing automatically includes one free bump every 5 days. This refreshes your post and moves it back to the top of its category list.
  • If you’d like to bump your listing before the 5-day window, you can use a credit for an early bump.
  • Bumps are a great way to refresh older posts or get more eyes on popular items.

Pin a Listing

  • A pin keeps your listing fixed at the top of its category for 24 hours.
  • Ideal for high-demand supplies you want to highlight.

Purchase Additional Listings

  • Credits may also be used to add more listings beyond the amount included in your subscription plan.
  • For example: if you’re on the Starter Plan (10 listings per month) and want to post 15 items, you can use credits to purchase the 5 extra listings.

Best Practices for Using Credits

  • Use bumps and pins strategically for seasonal items, rare supplies, or when competition is high.
  • Clearly describe your items so the added visibility leads to real sales or trades.
  • Monitor your credits balance in your account dashboard.

Reminder: Credits do not replace your subscription. A subscription is required to buy, sell, or trade on Hobby Nest.

Payments, Trades & Shipping

  • Payments: Sellers and buyers must work out payment directly (e.g., PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, etc.). Hobby Nest does not process transactions.
  • Trades: If arranging a trade, clearly agree on the items being exchanged, shipping responsibilities, and timing before mailing.
  • Shipping: You are responsible for packing and shipping your items. Be upfront with buyers about shipping costs, timelines, and whether you provide tracking.
  • Local Pickup: If you arrange local pickup, meet in a safe, public location.
  • For your safety, please do not include personal payment information in your listing description or payment details. Only share payment details through the Hobby Nest messaging system after you and the buyer have confirmed the transaction. This helps protect you from scams and keeps all transactions secure.

Hobby Nest does not handle payment transactions between buyers and sellers and cannot issue refunds. Payment must be arranged directly between the seller and the buyer. We strongly recommend using secure and trusted payment methods such as PayPal Goods & Services, Venmo, or other reputable services to protect both parties.

Hobby Nest is not responsible for any payment disputes or lost funds, so it's important to agree on payment terms and methods before completing a sale.

Communication

  • Use the Hobby Nest messaging system to communicate with buyers.
  • Respond to messages promptly and politely, but don’t feel pressured to rush a transaction.
  • Keep all important details (price, payment, shipping) in writing within the platform for clarity.
  • Don’t leave anyone hanging: If you’re interested in a sale or trade, let the buyer know, even if you’re not ready to commit immediately.

Cancellations & Issues

  • If you cannot complete a sale, notify the buyer as soon as possible.
  • Returns and refunds are at your discretion and must be worked out directly with the buyer.
  • If you encounter suspicious activity or rule violations, report them to Hobby Nest support.

Community Standards

  • Be honest and transparent in all listings.
  • Treat buyers respectfully.
  • Ship items within a reasonable timeframe once payment is received.
  • Keep Hobby Nest a positive and supportive community for all crafters and hobbyists.

Security and Reporting

  • Hobby Nest requires a subscription to buy or sell as a security measure to help reduce scams.
  • While this paywall helps protect the community, it does not guarantee that all users are trustworthy.
  • Always be cautious, use secure payment methods, and report any suspicious activity to Hobby Nest support immediately.

These guidelines help us keep Hobby Nest a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. When they aren't met, account access may be adjusted as needed.
